# # What is a digital garden?
A digital garden is much like a real garden, except ideas and information are the seeds we plant in the ground here. As we tend to them and water them, they begin to grow and flourish, creating a bed of connected ideas.
Much like a real garden, if you forget to water them, they may wither and die. If you don't tend to them, weeds can grow and block out the plants you had hoped to see there. That said… there can be as much beauty in a wildflower garden as there is in a well manicured one. Just no pesticides, please.
## Okay, but actually is a digital garden?
A digital garden is a rough collection of notes, thoughts, and ideas posted publicly on the internet. It's different than a blog or Medium post as it's less linear and much more free-form and interconnected, not required to have the rigidity and polish you may put into a written piece. It's also always alive and always growing. It’s an opportunity to [[Learn in public]].
