%% parent:: [[Productivity]] %% # Kanban method - visualization tool used to show all stages of a project, and the tasks within - goal is to aid flow of tasks, and identify any bottlenecks in your process - better overview of work in progress » all is visible - For the individual it can help to bring focus to tasks - For a group, it helps to create alignment on the production (keeps team engaged and accountable) » Also helps to visualize the team’s capacity, allowing you to better manage the flow of tasks between people - origins: developed by Taiichi Ohno (an engineer) for Toyota in the 1940s as a way to standardize production methods » goal of continuous improvement ([[Kaizen]]) - Kanban (physical or digital) is comprised of the board itself, Kanban cards representing the tasks, Kanban columns representing the stages, and Kanban swimlanes representing an organizational approach to categories within a Kanban board. ## In Obsidian [[Obsidian Community Plugins SOP#Kanban]] - Note, for now at least this plug-in does note have swimlanes. I have been testing out the Kanban method for an overview of readings for grad school, and for tracking individual projects. However, inspired by David Sparks (MacSparky), I’ve been testing out using the Kanban approach as an overall status board, giving me a better view of my horizon line. ## Differs from Scrum - Team approach: Kanban encourages a team effort to identify and solve bottlenecks, whereas in Scrum, individuals have predetermined roles towards project completion. - Product owner: objectives and goals. Scrum master: timelines. Individual: tasks. - Time scale approach: Kanban approaches a project as continuous, whereas Scrum implements the concept of sprints - Flexibility: Kanban allows for changes mid-workflow, to respond to challenges as they arise, whereas Scrum promotes staying the course, with changes only coming between sprints. Kanban is less structured than Scrum, and more adaptable to a wider variety of projects. --- - https://www.asianefficiency.com/productivity/using-kanban-board/
