# NFC for iPhones
I will be experimenting with NFC tags around the house to trigger [[Shortcuts]].
Note: [[Apple, AirTag|AirTags]] can be used as an NFC trigger.
## How to create an NFC trigger for iPhone
1. Open **[[Shortcuts]]** app.
2. Go to the **Automation** tab.
3. Tap **+**.
4. Tap **Create Personal Automation**.
5. Scroll down and select **NFC**.
6. Tab **Scan** and hold the top of your device near the NFC tag.
7. You will be asked to **Name This Tag**. Do so, and click **OK**.
8. Tap **Next**.
9. Now create your action(s). You can drag a menu up from the bottom to see more categories and apps.
10. You can toggle off **Ask Before Running**. You will need to confirm if that’s what you want.
11. When finished, tap **Done**.
## Implemented
- (Prototype) Tapping the NFC next to the fridge brings up the shared shopping list in [[Reminders]].
## Ideas
- Pull up [[Movies to watch or rewatch]] when sitting down for a movie.
- Bonus points for controlling the lights!
- One on the treadmill to trigger tracking and [[Zombies, Run!]]
## Current Pain Points
- My current smart bulbs aren’t [[Apple HomeKit]] enabled. As a workaround, I can use [[Shortcuts]] to ask Google Assistant to trigger the automation… but it brings up Google Assistant and is slow. (Not exactly the end of the world! Just nerdy observation.)
