### Starting notes:
- Shifted from [[2024-08-25]] as [[nellufy|Nell]] wasn't available.
## Notes
- [[Charles]]
- The child was shoving bread in his mouth, and he takes a bite.
- The bread… is the best bread he's ever had. It's amazing, even if it appears simple. He wants more.
- He takes more and eats more.
- [[Oskar Brodd]] is distracted and is looking out the window.
- [[Elsa Johansson]] is trying to keep the children behaving in a civil manner
- [[Dr. Niklas Windell]] and [[Charles]] notice [[Yokem Nielsen]] isn't actively talking with the group he's with. He's taken out a book and started writing, while listening to others. He looks tired and isn't paying attention.
- Windell doesn't think he looks unwell… he just looks a little sad. He notes it, but doesn't want to pry.
- [[Charles]] continues to fight the children for bread until it's gone, and then confronts [[Yokem Nielsen]] for more bread.
- From [[Petersen's Bakery]], not [[Un coin de paradis]]
- Currently closed, but open in the morning "when the sun is up"
- Will take the children tonight to raid the bakery… [[Yokem Nielsen]] suggests to wait for morning.
- Two bakers in the back, one large, one tall. And the young man who works the front.
- Young man is a Swedish native.
- [[Dr. Niklas Windell]] attempts to bake something for Elsa
- He looks for a cookbook before Elsa comes in, and finds a frog with a top hat on the shelf who stares at him.
- [[King Lord Plop]] requests more cookies. Offers to help.
- The cookbook dates backs at least 200 years. Writing in the margins.
- [[King Lord Plop]] suggests the sugar biscuit, because it's his favourite.
- The biscuits are a success!
- Elsa comes in and has a conversation with him.
- She has hung onto every word he has said.
- They are for both Plop and Elsa.
- [[Oskar Brodd]] doesn't tell anyone he's sneaking off to drink at the bar ([[Black Kraken]])
- ([[Elsa Johansson]] looks for [[Oskar Brodd]] only after he has left.)
- Goes back to his room for his coat and hat.
- The streets of Uppsala seem extra dark on his walk to the docks. Shadows.
- Failed [[Vigilance]] check. (Oh no.)
- Feels something sharp into his back. Stops and tenses up.
- Male voice. A mugging for money.
- Mr. Brodd turns around. A 15-year-old girl with hair under a flat cap.
- He tries talking to her, feeling sorry for her.
- She presses him again for cash. Still has his knife on him.
- Brodd shows her his pistol. (Pushed roll; he is exhausted after this)
- He walks away; she warns him there's a group of men lurking around.
- He tells her to do the same, tipping his hat.
- He made it to the [[Black Kraken]]
- Dimly lit dive bar with oil lamps and a badass mural of a kraken.
- Large burly man with a thick beard behind the bar.
- Brodd sticks out in this crowd.
- Orders a drink. Barkeep gives him a beer. (It's stale.)
- Says he's looking for a friend. A local baker. [[Tor Petersen|Petersen]]
- [[Tor Petersen]] used to be a regular but stopped coming.
- Hasn't seen him come in for two weeks.
- Brodd says his nice clothes are for his day job, so he fits in there.
- Since early October, lots of migrants coming in from eastern Europe. One was talking to [[Tor Petersen]] at some point. Became fast friends.
- Quite tall.
- Petersen acted like they were close friends after a single meeting.
- His walking kind of changed?
- Many people had died during a voyage here » from eastern Europe
- Another man had come in earlier… A Sven? ([[Sven Hjaerkason]])
- Cruel. A murderer. Disappeared. ([[1864-10-15 Uppsala Posten]])
- From the article, he disappeared 1896-10-04.
- Bartender: [[Magnus Olander]]
- Brodd notices one stranger in the corner with a black dog.
- Is drinking a beer.
- Has a suitcase, overcoat.
- Very pale, very thin (can see his cheekbones), appears to be of eastern European descent
- [[Oskar Brodd]] follows the man outside of the [[Black Kraken]] on the streets
- The man has a black horse and a black carriage (cargo, not passenger)
- Opens the backdoors, and brings the suitcase up with him on the carriage.
- Brodd tips his hat at the man, and the man returns the gesture.
- Light conversation between them.
- The man usually does the graveyard shift. Boisterous laughter at Brodd saying hopefully not at the graveyard.
- Yellowed teeth, a couple missing.
- The man's name is [[Niklas]]
- He's going to… a church?
- Just moved here a couple months ago…
- Has moved around. Most recently in London.
- Work: helps doctors with "particular" needs.
- Respects the men and women of medicine.
- [[Niklas]] offers Brodd a ride to the [[Linneas Botanical Garden]]
- In the back, there are shovels…
- Pushes the roll (Battered) but notices a crate in the back.
- Jars filled with chemicals and miscellaneous parts. (Lots of hearts for some reason.) One jar has a fetus.
- [[Oskar Brodd]], passing through [[Vaksala Torg]] on the way to [[Castle Gyllencreutz]], sees a shadow passing through the alleyways
- He stays in the carriage (realizing how beat up he is…)
- Meanwhile, Elsa and Dr. Windell are still talking into the late hours of the night.
- Elsa is waiting for Mr. Brodd as she had an idea for something. But he has forbidden for her to do it by herself.
- Seance
- [[Elsa Johansson]] wants to contact [[Milena Jerzek]]. [[Oskar Brodd]] was afraid of this.
- Chalk circle, with Elsa kneeling in the centre with her crystal ball.
- Having to push a roll for [[60 Games/61 Tabletop/Vaesen/Details/Talents/Medium|Medium]]. Frightened condition.
- She goes unresponsive.
- She screams. This time this process hurts. Both [[Dr. Niklas Windell]] and [[Charles]] hear this in their head.
- Experiencing the perspective of [[Milena Jerzek]]
- A tall dark man in front of her
- Glowing red eyes, direct gaze.
- Heart pounding, but his gaze is alluring.
- Drawn forward. Feeling at peace. Feeling of safety.
- Strong hands.
- Fangs into the neck. No way to escape.
- Elsa is feeling all of this.
- Feeling of blood being drained. It feels like an eternity.
- Milena screaming in the back of my mind.
- Feels like both our lives have been extinguished.
- Last thing Elsa sees is the man's red eyes.
- A smoke engulfs the dead body
- Another man. [[Brigger Holmlund]] exams our body. He knows he is too late. His body seems different.
- Footsteps of a dog, not a man running away.
- Fear check. This is more than she's ever experienced.
- She doesn't usually experience it from the perspective of the victim as they die.
- Brodd tells Windell through the door that it's a bad dream. That's all.
- Brodd doesn't let them in.
- Elsa is weeping.
- Brodd comforts her, and they effectively comfort each other.
- Brodd heals 2 conditions
- Elsa heals 1 condition
- The next morning.
- [[Charles]] wakes up as early as he can, planning to send a child to the bakery.
- The eldest child, Anna, is up and walking down the stairs.
- Windell spent the night in a chair outside of Elsa's room, sleeping
- A child running by wakes him up. Anna trips and catches herself.
- Anna asks for money for the bakery. [[Petersen's Bakery]] as [[Charles]] needs bread.
- Windell gives her money, but she wants an adult to come with her.
- Windell reluctantly agrees to accompany the child.
- Brodd slept in the chair beside Elsa's bed.
- He's still exhausted.
- She's embarrassed, knowing she screamed.
- Brodd goes and speaks to Windell, tells him Elsa has dreams from time to time
- She gets better over time. Elsa is unsettled by them, and is embarrassed by them. It would be better if Windell doesn't mention it.
- Windell has concerns about Brodd being improper.
- Anna yells up to Dr. Windell that she's ready to go.
- [[Charles]] goes down to the kitchen once he hears children leave
- He can smell the lingering smell of biscuits… but can't find any.
- [[Algot Frisk]] gets him tea *and* coffee.
- Charles asks about the bread, but there is none yet.
- Charles asks about the screaming; Frisk didn't hear it.
- Charles talks with [[King Lord Plop]]; the screaming is normal around the castle.
- [[King Lord Plop]] has been around for 500–600 years, thereabouts.
- [[King Lord Plop]] saw [[Oskar Brodd]] arrive home on a black carriage with a black dog.
- Plop has a good sense of smell, and the man smelled weird.
- Plop sells out Windell's secret of being a great baker
- [[Dr. Niklas Windell]] gets ready to go with Anna (Frisk found her a proper coat and shoes)
- [[Charles]] walks out of the kitchen
- Windell *did* hear screaming too, so it wasn't just Charles
- Charles takes someone else's trousers and gets ready to go out.
- [[Oskar Brodd]] and [[Elsa Johansson]] discuss the seance
- We both get 0 successes as [[Yokem Nielsen]] is talking with [[Algot Frisk]]. We hear nothing!
- Decide to go speak with [[Brigger Holmlund]]
- At [[Petersen's Bakery]]
- They're early in the line, maybe a 15 minute wait
- The line is mostly migrants
- Windell gives Anna money, and they decide to go poke around the trash of [[Un coin de paradis]]
- [[60 Games/61 Tabletop/Vaesen/Details/Skills/Stealth]]
- [[Charles]] » 1 success
- [[Dr. Niklas Windell]] » 2 successes (but pushed)
- See the son, [[Gabriel Bellivue]], drag a full can of trash to the back and empty it
- [[Charles]] has a successful [[60 Games/61 Tabletop/Vaesen/Details/Skills/Investigation]] check, sees that the drag marks seem to be daily. Drag the trash *in* and replace them with empty bins.
- A [[Vigilance]] check… 2 successes for [[Dr. Niklas Windell]], but none for [[Charles]]
- Windell hears chatter coming from the back. It's in French.
- "Transmutation" » said by [[Celine Bellivue]]
- Anna waves to them as they return, and they are next in line.
- They enter [[Petersen's Bakery]]. It's a cozy place.
- Young man at the front conversing with customers, but focused on the young woman in the couple.
- Portly man in his 40s fills only the bottom shelves
- Thin tall man only fills the top shelves
- The sign above the shelves says: "Come freely, go safely, and leave something of the happiness you bring."
- I'm the nerd who recognizes this line.
